Join me at 8 p.m. for tonight’s episode of “Top Chef D.C.” Judging from last week’s previews, it looks like there’s a little bit of something going on between Beaumont’s Tiffany Derry and cheftestant Ed. Hopefully Tiffany makes it to the top.
Thanks for tuning in!
Tonight’s episode kicked off at the chef’s house, and we see Kevin and Kenny talking about last week’s challenge. Kenny is too much of a beast in the kitchen to go home. He’s convinced he was at the bottom last week because he’s too much of a threat. Yeah. Sure.
Tiffany isn’t too sure about Angelo’s intentions. He helped Tamesha last week and she got kicked off.
Quickfire challenge
Aaron Schock, the youngest congressman in the House, is here to give the chefs their challenge. He’s from Illinois.
The chefs have to make an hors de ouvre that “packs the punch” of a full dish. The winner gets immunity and $20,000. Damn.
The chefs are running around like maniacs trying to figure out how they’re going to fit a full dish onto a toothpick.
Tiffany is making some kind of pork with prosciutto and dates. She’s pretty confident and from the looks of the other chef’s dishes, she seems to be among the few that knows what she’s doing.
Padma and Aaron are back to taste the dishes. They seemed happy with Tiffany’s dish, but didn’t have any comments for her.
She’s in the middle for the challenge, and Angelo is taking home the prize. Kevin is “pissed off” that Angelo won again. And Angelo is crying. Really?
After the break we’ll find out what’s up between Tiffany and Ed. Angela says if Tiffany’s fiancé got wind of what’s going on between then, Ed would be in trouble. Spicy.
We’re back…
And we’re getting to the elimination challenge.
The chefs are taking over the historic Palm D.C. restaurant. They’re drawing knives to find out what they’re cooking with.
Tiffany’s got swordfish. She works at the Go Fish Ocean Club in Dallas, and she’s been dying to whip out her swordfish recipe. She’s excited.
Kevin and Kenny both are cooking with lamb. This might be interesting. Andrea’s got swordfish as well, so we’ll see how her dish matches up to Tiffany’s.
Tiffany knows her recipe like the back of her hand. Meanwhile, her friend Ed is running around worried about his lobsters.
Amanda has porterhouse steak as her protein. She’s never cooked a porterhouse before, so she’s not going to serve that for an elimination challenge. She’s cutting the meat off the bone and Kelly graciously pointed out that it’s no longer porterhouse. Now it’s New York strip. And that’s not the challenge. We’ll see how she does.
We’re back at the house and Alex isn’t sure what he’s going to make tomorrow. And Kenny’s walking around in his robe, and white T-shirt, which is kind of gross.
Tiffany and Ed are talking in the bedroom and Ed’s being hard on himself. Tiffany tells him not to be, and then we hear Andrea chime in with her line about Ed being in trouble with Tiffany’s fiancé. Tiffany tells the camera Ed IS NOT flirting with her, and she proudly exclaims, “I got a man!”
I think Bravo is just looking for drama. Remember Leah and Hosea from a few seasons ago?
The chefs have arrived.
The VP of the restaurant just entered the kitchen and told the chefs this is the first time they’ve ever handed The Palm over to anyone else since 1927. They’re feeling the pressure.
Also, the winner gets their characterture on the wall if they win. Now they’re really feeling the pressure.
Kelly wants Amanda to go home. She didn’t bring salt and pepper along with her, and nobody is sharing.
Ed can’t find his pea puree and he’s starting to freak out. Meanwhile, Alex is walking around with a bright green pot of something pureed.
Tiffany reminds us that Alex didn’t make anything yesterday. Hmmmm…
Tom Coliccho is carrying the chefs’ dishes out of the kitchen for them, and we’ve got a few senators and NBC correspondents at the table.
They’re trying the steaks first. Gail thinks Amanda’s steak is delicious. Kelly’s steak is “half a cow” and is
more Texas than D.C.”
Where’s Eric Ripert?
Tiffany and Andrea are up with their swordfish. They try Andrea’s first and the guest judges are “fearful with what it can do” to them. Apparently you can taste the butter and the calories.
Tiffany’s is distinct, and one guy wants the fish cooked less. Tiffany knows it’s overcooked and she’s pretty sure she’ll be on the bottom.
Now they’re trying salmon, with Alex’s stolen pea puree. The judges love the pea. Steven’s dish is messy.
Meanwhile, Tom’s in the kitchen, trying the dishes himself. It’s kind of sad. I’ll eat with you Tom!
Now we’ve got Angelo’s and Ed’s lobster. From the looks of it, Ed’s dish could have used the pea puree. It needed more color. But what do I know.
Ed’s lobster is delicious, Angelo’s is hard to chew.
Now we’ve got Kenny’s and Kevin’s lamb. Kenny’s is interesting and needs spinach leaves. Kevin’s is overcooked and tough. Gail called it a “silky smooth puree of fire.”
Now Tom gets to come to the table. Finally! Meanwhile, back in the kitchen Ed is mad and wants to know who stole his #$@$^$#! pea puree.
We’ll see who’s going home after the break.
Bravo wants to know…
Do you think Alex took Ed’s pea puree? Hells yes!!!! I sure as heck didn’t see him making any himself. I will say he’s got some onions for stealing it though. It’s bright green! You can’t hide that.
During this week’s commercial interruption, Steven is giving a seminar about “being on the bottom.” In the challenge, that is. Amanda thought it was ridiculous and almost peed her pants. Tiffany said she was seriously listening to him. Guess she’s scared.
We’re about to go to judge’s table.
There’s a lot of chatter about the pea puree going on in the waiting room. Alex swears he didn’t take the puree, but we see a flashback of the chefs talking in the house about how good Ed’s pea puree looked.
Tiffany, Ed and Alex are called in. They had the best dishes!
Tiffany is crying and immediately said she cooked her fish too much. She was sure she was going to be at the bottom. Tom and Gail are complimentary.
Ed called the lobsters he had to work with Volkswagens, and the guest judge, Art Smith, said Alex’s pea puree was the best part of the dish.
He wins! WHAT!?! Tiffany and Ed DO NOT look happy. He (Alex, that is) even looks a little nervous. I think we’re going to see some confrontation.
Kevin, Andrea and Kelly are in the bottom three.
Kevin’s lamb wasn’t cooked well and nobody could figure out the ingredients he used in the sauce.
Andrea’s swordfish wasn’t good and the couscous wasn’t good either. She isn’t used to cooking it, and Art said it showed. She brings up something she makes at her restaurant to which Gail replies “If we wanted to taste the food you cook everyday we’d come to your restaurant.” Oohhh. She’s getting fiesty.
Kelly’s food was too salty. And she knows right off the bat. She’s crying. Amanda points out that Kelly wouldn’t share her salt. She wants Kelly to go home.
The judges know who’s going home, and we’ll find out who has to pack their knives after the break.
My guess: Kevin. Kelly’s done pretty well in the past and I don’t think salt is going to send her home. Although the judges are pretty serious about salt. I don’t know what to think about Andrea, but I don’t think she’s going home. Besides, Kevin walks around in that nasty robe. Nobody wants to see that.
The poll results are in…
And 90 percent of viewers think Alex took Ed’s pea puree. Duh!
We’re back at judges’ table.
Who’s going home?
Andrea. I was wrong.
Kelly burst into tears and Kevin dropped to the ground and clenched his fist to his face. Drama queen!
The three took a little too long saying their goodbyes in front of the judges and Padma got a little pushy. She told them to leave. Well then!
Next week…
The chefs are cooking food from around the world. Looks like everyone hates Alex next week. He reached over Kelly to get a pot from the top shelf that she couldn’t reach and kept it for himself. The other chefs think he should go home. Somebody says his cooking is like throwing a dart and making whatever it lands on. That won’t work for long. We see a clip of the judges trying Alex’s dish and they say it seems like it’s all over the place and it needs focus. Meanwhile, Tiffany says that while everybody is laying their plates out, she’s still making her salsa. Will Tiffany finish her dish for the judges? Will Alex be gone? You’ll have to tune in next week to find out.
